Proskauer Rose Lateral Profile 2024

Let’s not beat around the bush: in the big, bold, BigLaw garden, Proskauer truly stands out as a Rose. The firm harbors a whole host of prestigious clients with household names, including Sony Music Entertainment and iHeartMedia, as well as the likes of the NBA (National Basketball Association) and the NFL (National Football League). Among our associate sources, the firm was a crowd favorite, too, with insiders noting: “I wanted to work with people who were really smart and at the top of their game.” This glowing stature is reflected in our sister guide, Chambers USA, where Proskauer is awarded top medals for its nationwide employee benefits & executive compensationhealthcarelabor & employment, and sports law expertise. The firm’s banking & finance and private equity: fund formation expertise in Massachusetts, and general commercial litigation know-how in New York also score big.

The view from the firm: In 2021, our Diversity Task Force, composed of Executive Committee members, senior partners, and business services leaders, launched the Pipeline Initiative program. The goal of this voluntary program is to provide leadership and guidance to our diverse lawyers in the program (“protégés”) in the various next steps in their career journey through a sponsorship relationship. In partnership with Department and Practice Group Leadership, the Diversity Task Force provides protégés with sponsors, who support the protégé’s career advancement through advocacy, mentorship and the facilitation of professional development opportunities. In 2023, we developed a candidate review process and a more formal onboarding process for all new participants and sponsors.

In 2023, our Silver Scholar program attracted 14 high performing law students to Proskauer. As part of our recruiting and relationship building strategy, the firm maintains a 1-1 approach with diverse law student groups across the country. In 2023, Proskauer introduced a new partnership with Hampton University’s Pre-Law Institute, by hosting an event that highlighted internship and post-graduate opportunities for pre-law students and offered pre-law students at this historically black college the chance to network with Proskauer lawyers. We also focused on spending time providing mock interview sessions and creating networking events with a range of groups, including NYU’s Black Law Student Association, Fordham OutLaws and Columbia’s Hispanic Law Student Association. We partnered with Sponsors for Educational Opportunity by supporting two diverse rising first year law students, who spent the summer before law school with us gaining valuable insights to support their success in law school. We have also sponsored Cornell’s Black Pre Law-Society (hosting mentoring events, seminars and hiring interns from the group to work at the Firm). We also partnered with Legal Outreach to host four talented, diverse high school students for mock trials, resume workshops and networking sessions with our lawyers.

We know the importance of moving the needle on DEI, which is why in 2023 our DEI team dedicated almost 500 hours to client engagement efforts. This is a 500% increase compared to 2022’s hours dedicated to client engagement. We have partnered with clients on initiatives to help support the career advancement of mid-level diverse lawyers, including creating a leadership academy which provided select diverse lawyers the chance to attend professional development and networking sessions hosted by the client’s in-house team at their headquarters.
