White & Case Lateral Profile 2024
White & Case has had quite the journey since opening in NYC over a century ago - no, literally - W&C’s network has traveled the world (and the seven seas), with offices across America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the Asia-Pacific region. For many juniors at the firm, the word ‘global’ was an essential element of the decision-making processes during applications: “I wanted a global firm because I wanted to embody how to be a globally minded lawyer” stated one newbie. Another highlighted that “it's a global firm which means the clients and counterparts are going to be from all over the world, so that creates better work for a new lawyer.” Moreover, multi-lingual associates were keen to “practice my language on a global scale, that was the biggest appeal.”

We prize globally minded citizens of the world who are eager to work across borders and cultures, and are intrigued by solving problems within multiple legal systems. People who thrive at White & Case are team players who are self-motivated, achievement- oriented, open-minded and entrepreneurial. They enjoy working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. They are committed to becoming the best at what they do and are inspired by the success of others. We’re proud that our people are from a wide variety of backgrounds; clients and lateral hires tell us we’re more “tolerant” and less “corporate” than other firms. Our lawyers give back to society through a well-organized, global pro bono and social responsibility program.
Here's what survey respondents had to say about the firm's culture...
“It's very social and the partners are approachable and involved in the social scene.”
“A lot of litigators are funny, and humor is a common thing - people seem to get along.”
“They're just so genuine and nice. They want us to produce good work but they also care about us as people. Everyone makes sure we don't miss weddings and other important events. The culture here is unmatched, everyone seems really genuine, wholesome, and honestly very mid-western nice, but they still care about quality work product, efficiency, and serving the clients well. We all know that in BigLaw sometimes we have to work a lot of hours, but who you work those hours with can be the difference between burning out and a sustainable and happy career. The atmosphere and attitudes here seemed like the best place to achieve my goals of making partner without sacrificing my mental health.”

Sustainability & CSR
The view from the firm: The firm collects and analyses detailed greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions data in line with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. This includes emission across scope 1, 2 and 3 and we are committed to improving data accuracy each year. We have taken steps to identify all relevant emissions categories and have trained office representatives across all offices in GHG emissions data collection and reporting.
Undertaking an annual GHG assessment across all scopes ensures we can identify opportunities for improvement and for emissions reductions. For example, identifying opportunities to improve energy efficiency and switching to renewable energy wherever possible. We publish our emissions data and information relating to our sustainable operations in our Annual Environmental Sustainability Report. More information is available on our Responsible Business webpage.
